From September to October 2022, the EU Delegation to the Philippines (EUD) launched its flagship event to share European culture through film, in collaboration with EU Member States and institutions such as the Cultural Centre of the Philippines (CCP).

This year’s festival made a splash in Metro Manila and in each of the major island groups of Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao, with outdoor screenings, bike-ins and walk-ins. Films and other events were featured virtually, attracting over 11 000 views on-site and online alongside extensive international, regional and national media coverage.

The nationwide reach of the event served to bring the EU closer to local communities, including the general public, local governments and the private sector. Each year, Cine Europa acts as a dynamic platform for the exchange of ideas, promoting EU-Philippine dialogue and institutional partnerships for the arts and culture.

The event extends its stage to Philippine directors, writers and actors, through special workshops that enable those driving the local industry to share their own stories.

Recent years have seen a surge in interest in European film in the Philippines, with Cine Europa’s following on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram nearly tripling since 2020.
