Scholarship Opportunities

Latvian State Scholarship for studies

Coverage of Scholarship: The scholarship partially covers accommodation, living expenses and/or tuition fee.

Amount of Scholarship Covered: €500 per month for Bachelor’s and Master’s students; €700 per month for Phd students.

Qualifications: Citizens from countries that have signed an agreement with Latvia or offer scholarships for Latvian citizens can apply for the Latvian state scholarships. Eligible applicants: Bachelor's students who have already successfully completed at least 1 academic year at any higher education institution (HEI); Master’s or PhD students from any previous HEI. Scholarships are available to students with excellent academic standing.


ACCOMMMODATION: Students in Latvia have two accommodation options – university provided accommodation or independently found accommodation. Depending on the higher education institution dormitories and hotels with shared or private rooms are offered as well as apartments and student residences with private rooms.

LIVING: The cost of living is rather low in Latvia compared to other European countries, varying from 500 EUR to 800 EUR per month (including accommodation). However, one’s monthly expenses highly depend on one’s personal lifestyle preferences and the type of accommodation chosen.

WORK: International students can work in Latvia during their studies:

  • Full-time Bachelor’s students can work up to 20 hours per week (part-time),
  • Full-time master's or doctoral students can work 40 hours per week (full-time).

CAREER CENTRES: Most universities in Latvia have their own Career Consultation Centres that offer many different support measures and services to all students and graduates interested in developing their career.

BUSINESS INCUBATORS: Higher education institutions that specialise in business administration and management also offer services such as Business incubators. Business incubators are designed to inspire, educate, and help students and graduates develop and speed up their business ideas, start-up and early-stage entrepreneurial activity growth and success.

EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES: Higher education institutions offer many different extracurricular activities: different sports, student clubs, fraternities & sororities, dance groups, choirs, theatre and more. Students are sure to find the activity of their interest.

TRAVEL: Latvia is geographically located at the heart of the Baltic region connecting the West and East, making it easy to access any type of transport and jump in for a travel adventure across the continent. You can make it a starting point for many discoveries with most European and Asian destinations at your fingertips.
